Global Signal, formerly Pinnacle Holdings, was a publicly-traded REIT. Greenhill Capital Partners’ original investment was made through a pre-arranged Chapter 11 restructuring. Global Signal was a leading owner of wireless towers with customers across a board range of wireless communication technologies. Global Signal grew its asset base significantly through the acquisition of additional towers and a low cost capital structure from securitization financings. In January 2007, Global Signal was sold to Crown Castle International (NYSE: CCI) for an enterprise value of $5.8 billion, creating the largest wireless tower company in the U.S.
